Executive Director Position 

The House of Ruth, Dothan is seeking a new Executive Director with visionary leadership and a deep passion for women’s rights and social change. Also the person must have the capacity to influence change in systems’ responses to domestic violence as well as the public’s beliefs about domestic violence. The ideal applicant must be dedicated, compassionate and professional who will bring a wealth of experience to a well-established and respected agency. The ideal person must be able to manage a staff of fifteen full time employees and three part time workers. The individual must have the ability to direct an annual budget of a million dollars and be able to serve as an administrator over nine counties: Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, and Pike. The Executive Director must manage all organizational functions, including program planning and implementation, grant writing, fundraising, financial management and budgeting for a non-profit. 

The House of Ruth’s purpose is to assist victims (without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age or sexual preference) of domestic violence and sexual assault, which primarily effect women; to maintain public awareness programs relating to domestic violence and sexual assault; to engage in joint educational and public service projects with similar State of Alabama agencies and others that are in a geographical proximity. The organization works toward creating an inclusive organizational culture that is diverse and demonstrates respect for individual differences. The Board of Directors, which is comprised of community leaders of different careers, aspire to uphold the mission of the organization in all aspects of the agency’s operation. 

Founded in 1982 and incorporated 1991, The House of Ruth, Inc., empowers women and children to rebuild their lives and heal from domestic violence and sexual abuse. The agency also offers comprehensive support for women and children. The organization provides counseling to empower anyone regardless of gender, who is a victim of abuse. Our programs provide individualized support to rebuild safe, independent, and sustainable lives.
